An Amazing History A Dazzling Future
It was not very long ago that the mention of Canada's Arctic North evoked images of a breathtaking, hushed frozen wasteland, desolate and impenetrable. Now, the Canadian North brings to mind Canadian diamonds, some of the world's most beautiful and scintillating treasures.
In the fall of 1991, the first Canadian diamonds were brought to the surface and they proved to be of a particularly high grade, characterized by beautiful, exceptionally white diamonds.
Following comprehensive feasibility studies and lengthy environmental assessments, BHP Billiton and Dia Met Minerals began construction of the first Canadian diamond mine in 1997. On October 14, 1998, the Ekati Diamond Mine was officially opened.
Maple Leaf Diamonds ,
mined at Canada's first diamond mine EKATI , bear a distinct maple leaf laser mark and tracking number that insure authenticity from rough to the finished product. These superb, highest quality diamonds are mined at the Ekati , Canada's first diamond mine, located in the breathtaking Northwest Territories.
Each diamond is laser engraved with a tracking number, the CanadaMark symbol and the Maple Leaf insignia. This allows your diamond to be traced from the mine, through all stages to the finished treasure, and ensures that the diamond is indeed of Canadian origin. Every Maple Leaf Diamond also comes with an individual Certificate of Origin bearing its unique tracking number.
This Certificate is in full compliance with federal guidelines established by the Competition Bureau, Government of Canada, and is governed by the standards of the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct for Authenticating Canadian Diamonds. This applies to all aspects of the diamond industry, from mining, sorting and trading, to cutting and polishing, jewelry manufacturing and retailing. This ensures an identifiable trail of diamond integrity from the rough crystal to the finished product.
